August first... 30 days of posts.... regardless of how small! Wish me luck.... I am gonna need it!
and yes.... this time I am talking about my husband! We are celebrating year number four as man and wife on Tuesday, but we decided to celebrate it on Saturday... Originally we were going to go see The Half Blood Prince, but my husband surprised me by saying that he'd rather go to the botanical gardens and stroll around enjoying the beauty WITH me instead of sitting in the dark quietly for two hours. He scored points (big time) there!
We had reservations at Brother Sebastian's for dinner, later in the evening, so we went out to the gardens after dropping Moo off at grandma's around two. Ken asked that I leave the camera at home - hard for me, but I did... the only pictures I have to share are from cell phones...
We decided that our yard should look like this shade garden. Several waterfalls, carefully placed benches and oodles of hostas...
We spent a few hours roaming through the gardens and even came upon four turkeys fighting. Never seen a turkey fight before... very odd... two turkeys latched on to each others beaks trying to push the other around. They didn't even seem to notice as we came up to watch. Wished we would of snapped a photo of that!
Leaving the gardens was interesting as well, there was a FREE weekend at the zoo and there were people EVERY WHERE... for those that don't know, the botanical gardens and the zoo share the same freeway on/off ramp. My lord, the police even had a little substation set up in one of the parking lots. According to the news Saturday's crowd at the zoo was over 40,000 and they haven't tallied up today yet. So needless to say it took us a few minutes to get on to the freeway!
We ran home, changed and headed out to eat. The restaurant is built to look like a mission and the wait staff actually wear something akin to monastery robes. Food and service were terrific! French Onion Soup for me, Jalapeno Poppers for Ken; salad bar; Chicken Oscar for me, Fillet Oscar for Ken. Some wine and they even brought us out a cake when they found it was our anniversary! Very nice!
When we finished, we just didn't want to go home yet so we headed down town. There is a new pedestrian bridge that starts no where and ends no where on the other side... 3000 feet from nothing to nothing. It is just the first pedestrian bridge to connect two states... still it is pretty cool. It is a suspension bridge, not unlike the Golden Gate. And like the Golden Gate, you can feel it sway... kind of a strange feeling at first. We walked over and back, dressed to the nines (don't wear heels if you cross it - trust me on this) and I even got a sunset kiss at the top of the bridge from my very surprisingly romantic husband!
Here are some shots we snapped with our phones...
It really was a magical evening for us... hope we don't wait till next year to do it again!
This past week flew by!
Here are some highlights!
4th of July was lovely but chilly! It was wonderful to share fireworks, in the backyard with mom after all of these years!
the only bummer was when Ken lit a spinner and it BLEW up, burning his hand. If you look closely, you can see the blisters that formed on his fingers... looked like roasted chicken!
Saturday found us in Weeping Water for a family reunion, of sorts... a lot of Ken's family made it from out of state and came for the afternoon!
Nothing beats a day in the country with family!
New Jersey seems so far away...
Katie is an absolute doll and her brother Matt (in the background) is a kid who is seriously headed in the right direction! I would love to spend more time talking with these two!
I have oodles of photos from Mom's visit which we will save for another post... but I want to leave you with just one more...
Just a lot of things going on in a short period of time!
Mom will be here two days from this moment! I am uber excited by this! Yeeeeeeee Haw! Vacation for a few days!
As promised a few photos from the pig roast at the Giroux's!
Over the next week, I will be taking more than enough photos of Moo, so I will spare you.... just this once!
Fire works are coming y'all!
