White Christmas

We had a white Christmas for sure! Although... what's a good snow storm, with out a bit of ice to precede it???

I had actually scheduled a vacation day for Wednesday... just in case it started to get bad. The roads were just wet as the ice was forming above ground level. But as the temp dropped, ice covered the roads. Then.....

The snow began to fall.... and fall... and fall...

We were actually worried that our family wouldn't be able to make it to our house because the snow was so bad, but being the true Nebraskans they are... everyone made it! We dined on chili and had some wonderful news! It seems as though I will be an aunt in August! Steve and his wife Kim are expecting their first child!!! We are soooo excited for them!

Following the tradition set forth by my grand father, we opened gifts on Christmas eve... Of course, the kids made out like bandits again! Moo opened some of the cutest clothes! Grandma Jane gave her this rain coat... it's a turtle!

My uncle Monte gave her a Target gift card, so we may see if we can find rain boots to match!

As much as she loved all of her gifts, I think her favorite of the evening was Pita...

Pita came with rules.... no taking her into the bath tub, no trying to style her hair, no taking all her clothes off, no cutting her hair... just love her. Pita has been with Moo most of the time since she was opened!

Ken operated my camera most of the evening, but I did get a shot that I really like...

Oh we had to make sure that Santa was well taken care of....which he was...

and through it all.... it just kept on snowing...

a wild & wacky December (so far)

well, it definitely looks like Christmas now... in the 9 1/2 years that I have been here (can you believe it's been that long?) this has been the snowiest December, that I can remember. It snowed and it snowed... and then it snowed some more...

The kids had three snow days off from school and I had two from work... because we live on a hill... and I am a chicken. In deep snow, or ice, there is no getting up or down our hill safely, even if you kind of know what you are doing... our neighbor got stuck trying to go down the hill. He never did make it any where that day... except back into his own garage.

Fast and furious... head long into Christmas!

Thanksgiving....ah how I love you! Our houses are filled with a smell that just makes me melt... is there any better smell than a roasting turkey? I think not!

Since I don't really trust our oven, we roasted our bird in a counter top roaster... should have done it years ago! It cooks a bit faster and still retains moisture! Stuffed with herbs (under the skin too) oranges and onions this was very yummy! Good thing I liked it because I seem to be the only one still eating it!

Moo helped in the kitchen this year... mashing sweet potatoes, whipping up pumpkin dip, and setting the table.

She also made cute little place cards for the table... each was personalized for each family member specifically.

We took down the fall and Thanksgiving decore Friday evening. Started Christmas right away...

I was going to an angel tree for moo... all feathery and sparkly, she wanted her pink tinsel and Sesame Street characters up again...

and we are remembering three friends that have passed this past year. One light for each of them is placed in our windows... this year we remember: Mel McCollumn, Tom Atkins, and Britani Coberly... may you rest in peace and may your loved ones find solace this holiday season.

Buggerhead turns six on Tuesday...

Oh my goodness! Can this be??? It's hard to believe that she's growing up so fast!

We were supposed to celebrate her birthday last night, but had to postpone till next weekend cause little Missy went and got herself sick - so we have rescheduled for next Saturday night! But all was not lost on the original party day.... the grandma's came through with flying colors! Grandma Jane brought over a BIG pink box FULL of all sorts of art supplies! Moo spent most of yesterday coloring, gluing. painting and mess making! Last evening we went to Target where Moo spent the money Grandma Bette sent for her birthday on a back pack with wheels! She has been wanting one for a while, so it is very cool that she bought it herself!

Gifts

Got my Christmas cards done! They were going to be a real neat folded card, all customized - very cool... went to order them and realized I was getting ready to spend $65.00 on cards that were going to get tossed out after the holidays... I decided to go cheap.... I am now sending cool Christmas post cards! Please don't think less of me because I was being frugal... we have a slew of birthdays to prepare for in the next coming months...

and speaking of birthdays.... what do you get boys that have birthdays soooo close to Christmas??? Ken's birthday is right before Christmas, and Jon's is right after... OY they are so hard to buy for! For Jon, we can buy games for I guess, but Ken is another story...

we both really like this black tree wall art from signals but not suitable as a birthday gift

he doesn't like the clothes I pick out for him - picky, picky...

I know absolutely ZERO about his hobby...

maybe I will just take him to dinner and call it good.

wish I felt a bit better... stuffy nose congestion...then it lets loose... arggggg. I hate this!

I haven't done much these past few weeks, with my camera. Hope to remedy that this evening while Moo has her karate class.

A few weeks ago, I took some portraits for a gal at work... love this family portrait.
